Future NHL-ers, beer leaguers, new skaters - they all have one thing in common: the need to get their skates sharpened. But you're busy - how many times have you thought: "I really needed to get those skates sharpened, but who on earth has the time for that?!"

Growing up playing hockey, we heard this all too often from our busy parents, even when doing their very best to balance their own jobs combined with their kids' extracurricular schedules. As we became adults and graduated to beer-league hockey, we found both ourselves and our teammates echoing the same thing...

In a world where you can order pretty much anything to your door with just a couple of taps on a screen, why should getting your skates sharpened be any different?

That’s where we came up for the idea for GRINDERS SKATE SPECIALISTS.

Our Name

In ice hockey, a “grinder” is a player better known for their hard work than scoring or skill. The grinder is not in the spotlight as would be the offensively skilled scoring stars, but they are often fan favorites due to their work effort in games. Thus the grinder is often the player who, by their willingness to endure the abuse of going into the “dirty areas” to dig out the puck, often sets up the goals by passing it off the team's offensive stars.

This legendary team role in the great game of hockey was the inspiration behind the name for GRINDERS. We wanted to create a business that worked hard to be the trusted unsung heroes for our customers in order to maximize their ability to succeed and have fun on the ice.
